Measuring Culture
Can you understand the character of a culture by the number of different words they have for particular things? For example, Eskimos are rumored to have dozens of words for snow (although, as a reader points out, that is a myth). Americans have dozens of words for capital (we are obsessed with all forms of currency). Tibetans have dozens of words for mind (this I can say authoritatively).

The eskimo snow fact is proabably a "consultant legend" -- http://www.fastcompany.com/online/02/snow.html
