Cool. Scientists in the US have figured out how to make transparent alumina. The link includes pictures of alumina glass. OK, it's almost aluminum, but not quite!

Not transparent aluminum, transparent Alumina, which is aluminum oxide - Al2-O3
There are reports that this was also discovered in 2002 in Dresden Germany.
For transparent aluminum we are going to need to get the formula from Captain James T. Kirk.
